MLC MICE Part 3/4:
Miss London Concierge in FINLAND

Miss London Concierge are your venue finding experts. Not just venue finding in London and the UK, but also abroad.  We are sending our clients a four part series of special blogs, mailers and information around MICE and international trips.  Why? In today’s fast-paced and competitive business world, corporate teams are constantly searching for new ways to improve teamwork, boost morale, and enhance productivity. One increasingly popular option that has emerged is the concept of MICE trips.  MICE stands for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions. These trips provide unique opportunities for corporate teams to come together in a different setting, away from the office, and engage in various activities that foster team building, learning, and networking.  This month we will be bringing you a weekly blog on the countries and cities we have been lucky enough to visit this year including Milan, Brussels, Finland & Scotland.  Today is part three of four: the FAM trip to the beautiful country of… FINLAND

Miss London Concierge, along with a number of other agency friends, were lucky enough to visit this lovely country in September 2023 to find out more about how they are working hard to create fantastic incentive trips for companies and their teams. We experienced a touch of this magic for a five day FAM trip and found out why Finland would be a great cultural, gastronomical and spiritual choice for a client/employee trip.

Earlier this month, Miss London Concierge were invited to attend a five day magical Northern lights FAM trip to Finland, the happiest country in the world by Visit Finland.

We travelled with Finnair to Helsinki (a short 2.5 hour train journey)   where we caught our connecting flight to Rovaniemi(1 hour 20)  to begin our trip.  Unfortunately we did get separated from our luggage for 24 hours but our hosts looked after us wonderfully and we very quickly forgot about our possessions.

Check-in at Lapland Hotels Sky Ounasvaara

We experienced a warm welcome and a fine dining experience in the hotel’s restaurant, which helped put our luggage in the past – as did the stunning sauna in our rooms.

We admired the stunning natural scenery stretching out to the horizon through the panoramic windows. For years, Sky Kitchen & View has been known as one of the best restaurants in Finland.

It was such a luxury and a great way to end the day and relax you in the morning ahead of a busy day.

Lapland Hotels Sky Ounasvaara is located in the middle of a landscape that opens to the horizon. The rooms of the fully renewed classic hotel combine the high-quality materials of Lapland and the presence of nature outside the large windows.

Aurora Borealis catamaran cruise

A sturdy catamaran boat with spectacular 360-degree views of the sky makes for ideal cruising under the northern lights. The steady ride gives you an excellent opportunity to sit back and get the taste of traditional local drink while waiting for the show in the Arctic sky. Even though the Northern Lights cannot be guaranteed, the Autumn night under the Arctic sky, with a hint of the approaching winter, is an experience in itself.

We got a few boat experiences – we can’t forget the Rib boat ride in Helsinki which was another really fun and exciting activity that is perfect for groups. Being able to stop on land for a picnic and take in the lovely views is a great addition.

RIB-boat safari to see the stunning archipelago and passing by some island venues
Almost 100 kilometres of coast and over 300 islands offer an endless number of opportunities to enjoy the maritime atmosphere of Helsinki all year round. Suomenlinna Fortress island – a Unesco World Heritage site and the home of 800 Helsinkians; Vallisaari island – the home of Helsinki Biennial; and Lonna island – the compact “livingroom” of Helsinki with a sauna, restaurant and event space. We will hear more about these and pass by some charming maritime venues.

Bearhill Husky

Huskies are not born fit, it takes lots of preparation and conditioning before the dogs are as fit as they can be. Visit the kennel and get a feel for how the dogs are prepared to be the amazing athletes they are.

The Husky experience at Bearhill Husky was an absolutely standout moment in the trip. It was so special to learn and spend time with these animals as well as drive a sledge.

It really is a great team activity and bonding with animals helps bonding with people, too!

We were all very popular coming home with personalised letters from Santa to our families!

Our Santa Claus Village experience included:

  • Sending your post cards from Santa Claus’ Main Post Office
  • Crossing the Arctic Circle on your own
  • Meeting reindeer in Santa Claus Reindeer Park
  • Shopping at Pentik, Iittala and Marimekko brand stores
  • Having a cup of coffee in one of the restaurants

And, of course… A Private meeting with Santa Claus!

A fantastic array of experiences and visits

As well as our stand out moments, there were plenty of other ‘wow’ venues, hotels and dinners on our trip. We were impressed by all the venues and mentioning a few of them below.

and last but not least

Arctic Treehouse Hotel and SantaPark inspections

SantaPark welcomes you to join the merry Elves on an unforgettable journey to the heart of Christmas at SantaPark, an indoor amusement park in Rovaniemi, voted the top Christmas destination in the world. SantaPark offers facilities for big events, conferences and dinners.

Dinner at restaurant Gillet
The food philosophy of the restaurant is based on first-class, northern ingredients, but the restaurant is not afraid to also utilize the spirits of the world’s ethnic cuisines. At the heart of everything are the raw materials and the taste. The values of the Ravintolakolmio group, a local family-owned restaurant chain behind Gillet, have always been socially responsible. The partners are chosen based on the same world of values and this has been the case since the beginning of the group’s over forty-year-old story, since 1979.

 Sauna activity at Apukka
Would you dare to try sauna and arctic swimming? Apukka Resort has its own special world of saunas; a wood-heated sauna, electric sauna, sauna by the lake with Arctic swimming facilities, you name it. Still, the most extraordinary sauna of Apukka is our design; a sauna carriage. This is a small wood-heated sauna on skis that you can have on the doorstep of your glass igloo or suite. Remember to order sauna drinks, too; it’s part of the Finnish sauna culture.

Returning to Helsinki, we transferred to hotel Crowne Plaza Helsinki – Hesperia for a site visit.
We continued by foot via the beautiful Töölö Bay area to see Little Finlandia – a stylish wooden pavilion-like experience center in the middle of the most beautiful area of Helsinki, Musiikkitalo – concert hall and event venue, as well as the stunning Oodi Central Library. Oodi is not only Helsinki’s Central Library and a living meeting place but also a venue for events, a house of reading and a diverse urban experience; it is a library of a new era, a living and functional meeting place open for all.
Our morning walk ended to a site visit at hotel Scandic Grand Central located at the Art Nouveau style central station of Helsinki.

Thank you to all of our incredible hosts, including the Finland Convention Bureau for making this trip one to remember and allowing us to experience first hand how these venues and experiences will work for our clients next incentive trips.
