I am thrilled to share my latest reflections on IBTM World in Barcelona: an event that truly showcased how fast the corporate event industry is evolving in the world of MICE. On the recent Events Unlocked podcast, I shared my favourite takeaways, and in this blog I’m diving even deeper.
The week was bursting with inspiration upcoming hotel openings, creative venue concepts, unique destinations, and plenty of ideas ready to transform the way we build events for our clients.
This year marked a big shift: instead of simply walking the floor, I (along with Victoria) attended IBTM World as a hosted buyer and the experience was completely different. Previously, my visits involved wandering through stands, collecting brochures, chatting with familiar faces and discovering new suppliers in a fairly organic way. But this time, the focused appointments meant I had meaningful time with hotel groups, DMCs, countries, and venue partners from around the globe. These curated meetings cut through the noise and allowed for genuine relationship-building and deeper conversations about what’s actually new and event-ready.
It reminded me why I always say: “Everything is always done better in person.” You understand brands more deeply, you get honest answers, and you build trust — something invaluable in our industry.
Noteworthy New Openings: IBTM is always brilliant for uncovering what’s launching soon — and this year did not disappoint. Two standout London openings are set to create serious buzz for corporate events.
Admiralty Arch – Waldorf Astoria London
A truly iconic landmark is being reborn. Admiralty Arch is being transformed into a Waldorf Astoria property and it’s shaping up to be one of London’s most prestigious new openings.
Highlights include: Around 100 luxurious rooms / A stunning ballroom accommodating up to 300 guests / A rooftop brasserie with incredible views over central London / A VIP suite (which looks amazing and has views looking both sides of the arch – towards Trafalgar Square and over the Castle too!), spa, and the unmistakable heritage of one of the city’s most historic buildings
This will be a showstopper venue for high-end corporate events, product launches, and executive soirées.
Olympia
It was also such a treat to catch up with the teams from Olympia, Kensington.
Of course, this is a wonderful space for large events and a go-to for exhibitions in the city of London, but there is so much more to this new redevelopment of the whole site that is daring, fun and ideal for groups of all sizes. not only will two Incipio venues be opening up on the site but also members clubs, gala dinner venues and much much more.

Exploring Unique Venue Concepts: My Top Picks
One of my favourite parts of IBTM was seeing how hotels are embracing art, design, and history to offer more immersive event experiences. Below are my top venue picks that blend creativity with functionality:
VP Design Madrid

A Week of Unforgettable Dining & Hospitality
Dinner at Nobu Barcelona
Tuesday night was such a highlight. Vicky and I had dinner at Nobu Barcelona and honestly, we’re still talking about it.

The meeting and event spaces here are exceptional too, with a 150-guest ballroom, auditorium, and multiple stylish breakout rooms
InterContinental Barcelona – Event Evening
Wednesday evening was spent at the InterContinental Barcelona for a hosted event. It was a great natural way to meet other providers, fellow agents and generally enjoy the evening networking. The food was a stand-out at this venue also. There were approximately 400 guests and no one went hungry with good quality food constantly replenished. the service was impeccable.
The atmosphere brought the industry together beautifully and it was a great way for me to spend my final night at the show.
This hotel is brilliant for large meetings, conferences, incentive groups, and high-end corporate stays.
The Emerging Appeal of Lanzarote for Corporate Events
One of the biggest surprises I shared on the podcast is just how incredible Lanzarote is becoming for events.

The Rise of the Midlands in UK Corporate Events
It’s not all about London anymore and IBTM confirmed it. The Midlands is having a real moment.
Birmingham is buzzing with regeneration and will host the Invictus Games 2027, drawing international attention. It also has more Michelin stars than any UK city outside London, making it a foodie destination for incentives and corporate dinners.
·Sheffield is developing quickly, with new hotels, modern event venues, and growing demand. I’m seeing a noticeable increase in clients specifically asking for Midlands options, thanks to ease of travel, cost-effectiveness, and fresh, modern venues.
